2019: KINDEZI ACADEMY, ATLANTA

IMG_3819.jpeg

Bare Hands sponsored a garden for the Kindezi School in Old Fourth Ward in order for the school to implement a gardening curriculum. To the volunteers on March 23rd, Thanks for participating, we had a blast and a big thanks to the Boutte Tree Company for donating their wood to us. We repurposed the wood and built box gardens at Tanner’s farm and brought them to the project to fill in.

Here’s what we planted:
Lacinato and Curly Kale, Cauliflower, Cilantro, Rosemary, Lavender, English Thyme, Chocolate Mint, Blueberry, Muscadine and Wildflowers. All the herbs and veggies are edible!

Here’s what we did:
We installed a drip irrigation system to make maintenance easy! Kindezi Academy’s handyman, James, has been instructed on when and for how long to use the drip system.

Here’s how to keep it going:
The drip irrigation system will be good to run in the morning for 30 minutes Mon/Wed/Fri and to water the island/outlying plants with the garden hose until the soil looks happy and damp. We hope that the Kindezi team of teachers and students will implement a plant curriculum to ensure that the students get out and learn how to nurture their garden.

Interested in how to help for next quarter?:
We are working towards growing money on trees, until then, we need your time and donations for this initiative.
