About
Travel, plant, and connect. Our goal at Bare Hands is to link underserved communities with food autonomy and have fun while doing it. Join us on a cultural and meaningful trip to Guatemala to help. We have been organizing projects there since 2013 and have established lasting relationships with multiple villages. Our team has planted over 25,000 fruit trees, aided with communities with clean water, and even built a church.
We began in 2013, planting fruit and pine trees for the people of Chijtinimit, a small village in the mountains of Guatemala. During this time, we saw the need for people to take control of their health and food sovereignty. The Bare Hands team of volunteers work, play, and travel throughout villages in beautiful Guatemala. We plant fruit trees, build box gardens, and connect with the local people.
How it works
01. plan
We gather support and volunteers for our trips to Guatemala. Then, we plan a rough outline of the itinerary given the resources acquired. What do the communities need at the given time? In past trips it’s been planting fruit trees, building a rooftop garden and even a church.
02. travel
Once the tickets are booked and the itinerary is set, we're off to Guatemala. Most of our volunteers fly from Atlanta which has a nonstop flight to GUA. Our team is picked up by a private bus and off we go.
03. plant
Volunteers explore and settle in. Then, together we work on projects around the country. Most trips include passing through Antigua, Chichicastenango, and Pana (a must see, Lake Atitlan) many projects are in remote and rural villages.
Projects
Progress with your donations
The majority of our funds come from small, individual shareholders. Our projects are made possible with your donations. Since 2013, we have planted over 25,000 fruit trees and thousands more herbs and vegetables.
